Oriental bank of Commerce (OBC) is an India based engaged in offering various banking products and services. It offers deposit products named saving accounts, current accounts, term deposit, suvidha deposit, tax saving term deposit and variable progressive deposits. Loan products such as housing loans, car/vehicle loans, education loans and personal loans, loans to doctors, professionals, defense personnel, traders, small and medium enterprises, and women and also offering various other services such as NRI banking services, premium banking services, internet services, foreign remittances, DMAT services and cash management services.
The bank has strong presence in the Northern region. It can take over a South-based bank having synergies to expand business in the region. OBC has licence to start 117 branches across India during the current fiscal. The bank aims to focus on semi urban and rural areas, and plans to open almost 200 new branches yearly in the coming 3 financial years. OBC, which is reported to have a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of close to 13 percent, intends to raise further capital through bonds to fund acquistions.
Apart from technology initiative taken by the bank would also drive growth. This bank has become 4th public sector bank to link all 1,323 branches and 79 extension counters to core banking solution. Besides, the bank also brought online education loan facility, e-shopping and OBC Direct in collaboration with IDBI Capital. This bank is about to open 64 branches during the year. This bank offer education loans for students who want to pursue higher education in India and abroad. This bank was established on 19th February, 1943 in Lahore. It was founded by the first chairman of the bank Late Rai Bahadur Lala Sohan Lal. In 4 years of its establishment, the OBC shifted its base to Amritsar as problem aroused due to division of India. Candidate Eligibility: Candidate applying for the OBC education loan should be Indian Nationals and not more than 45 years of age. An applicant will be considered eligible if he takes admission into the recognized courses, which are approved by recognized bodies.
